For over a decade, the Township of Russell Public Library has been offering a certificate of Excellence and a prize to the township’s five elementary schools. The certificate and prize are awarded to a Grade 6 student in recognition of the excellent quality of their written language in either French or English.
Teachers select the winners each year and notify the library of the name or names of the students chosen. The prizes and certificates are presented at the Grade 6 graduation ceremonies. Prior to 2023, students received a cheque. Now, the library offers gift cards to Chapters Indigo.
