A not-for profit organization founded in 2001, the Friends of the Township of Russell Public Library currently has two chapters: the Russell Branch Chapter, created in 2012, and the Embrun Branch Chapter, created in 2011. These groups support the development of the library and promote its services and resources through fundraising, promotional and lobbying activities.
Projects by the Friends of the Russell Branch
The Friends of the Russell Branch support the Library through various fundraising activities and community initiatives. Over the years, the group has organized bake sales, used book sales, silent auctions, and fundraising campaigns for Christmas and Easter baskets.
Their contributions also extend to cultural and youth activities. The group has organized holiday storytelling evenings, sponsored a musical performance for children, and provided prizes for the finalists of the Teen Poetry Contest on three occasions.
Since 2013, the group has provided the grand prizes for the Summer Reading Club. Through their commitment, the Friends help enrich the Library’s programming and support its activities for the benefit of the community.
Projects by the Friends of the Embrun Branch
Over the years, the group has organized garage sales and bake sales and raised funds during the Christmas Festival.
The group has also provided prizes for the finalists of the Teen Poetry Contest on three occasions and has donated the grand prizes for the Summer Reading Club every year since 2012.
The group has contributed to the cultural life of the community by organizing family magic shows, holiday storytelling evenings, and a screening of the Franco-Ontarian film La Sacrée. In addition, they funded the purchase of play structures for children. Through their initiatives, the Friends help enrich the Library’s activities and offer a variety of experiences to community members.
