
A not-for profit organization founded in 2001, the Friends of the Township of Russell Public Library currently has two chapters: the Russell Branch Chapter, created in 2012, and the Embrun Branch Chapter, created in 2011. These groups support the development of the library and promote its services and resources through fundraising, promotional and lobbying activities.
Recent Projects (Russell Branch)
- Donation of prizes for the finalists of the Teen Poetry Contest (2018-2019, 2022).
- Sponsorship of the Monkey Rock Music presentation – March Break 2016.
- Sale of used books at the Living Locally Fair (2014-2018).
- Organization of Christmas storytelling events (2014-2016, 2018).
- Donation of GRAND PRIZE and other participation prizes – Summer Reading Club (2013-2022).
- Organization of Christmas basket fundraiser (2014, 2015, 2021).
- Fundraising sale of photo greeting cards, handmade wooden bird feeders and Avon products.
- Organization of a silent auction (2012 and 2016).

- Organization of a family event – Magic Show (2014).
- Organization of Christmas storytelling events (2014-2016, 2018).
- Donation of GRAND PRIZE and participation prizes – Summer Reading Club (2011-2022).
- Donation of children’s play structures (2014).
- Presentation of the Franco-Ontarian movie “La Sacrée” (2012).
In 2008, the organization launched the innovative “bookcrossing” initiative Pick-Me-Up! – in cooperation with twelve local businesses. This program was the recipient of a Ontario Ministry of Culture Innovation Award.
