FRIENDS OF THE LIBRARY
The Friends of the Library is a not-for-profit voluntary organization dedicated to the enhancement of library services for the residents of our municipality. The Friends welcome new members and volunteers on an ongoing basis.
OUTREACH SERVICES
Our home delivery services depend on a regular group of volunteers who help us to reach out to residents who are unable to visit the library due to advanced age, disability, illness, or caregiver responsibilities. Homebound services volunteering usually requires a valid drivers license and access to a vehicle volunteers must also successfully pass a Criminal Record Check.
PUBLIC LIBRARY BOARD
After each municipal election, the Township advertises in local newspapers to recruit five volunteers to sit on the Public Library Board, the governing body of the Library. Board directors play an important role in the development of library services in the community. High School Community Involvement
Volunteering at the Library can count as the Ontario Ministry of Education requirement of community involvement for high school students. Our student volunteers help with filing, shelf-reading, crafts and special projects. As student volunteering opportunities are limited, placement is not guaranteed and will depend on the Library’s needs.
Other Library Volunteer Opportunities
Some of our volunteers also help us with shelf maintenance, material sorting, indoor plants maintenance, filing, minor repairs, special events and library programs such as book clubs and storytime.
The Library Community Food Garden 
The Library Community Food Garden aims to engage children and youth through educational programs and hands-on learning, but all community members and organizations are welcome! This is a volunteer-based initiative where individuals and community groups are encouraged to visit and help out in the garden. All volunteers will be able to share the harvest and the rest will go towards our local food bank.

How can I qualify?
Volunteering requires enthusiasm, commitment and a desire to help others. To volunteer at the Library:
- you must be at least 14 years old;
- you must contact the Branch Head to arrange for a short interview you might be asked to provide references;
- you should be available for a training session, if necessary;
- in some cases, you might need to successfully pass a Police Criminal Record Check;
- in some cases, you might need a valid drivers license and access to a car.
