Library Community Garden

The Library Community Garden aims to provide opportunities for people of all ages to learn how to care for the earth and for themselves by growing and eating healthy, local food. The Library will manage the garden, but volunteers will set-up, plant and maintain the garden throughout the season.

We want to share the abundance of our harvests with the whole community. A weekly delivery of fresh produce will be donated to the Good Neighbour’s Food Bank and all volunteers will be welcome to their fair share of the harvest.

Give a little, take a little!

Volunteer Opportunities in the garden

Elementary and secondary school classes:
Teachers, take your learning outside!
This can be a one-time visit or weekly visits to the garden. Visits can be entirely educational or paired with students tackling some of the day’s tasks to be accomplished (i.e. weeding and watering). Students are welcome to bring some of the harvest home after their visits when available.
The garden will be open for class visits from the last week of May until the end of September.

Children and youth organizations:
Children and youth organizations can help with the daily garden tasks as well as register for special volunteer days. Groups are welcome to visit the garden for educational activities as well.

Intergenerational mentorship Program:
High school students who would like to volunteer in the garden for their Community Involvement Hours will be paired with a member of the Horticultural Society for regular visits to the garden. This is a great learning opportunity for those interested in learning more about gardening and growing food.

Individuals and families:
Every member of the community is welcome to volunteer in the garden. There will be opportunities for planting, harvesting and winterizing the garden in which we will need several volunteers. There will also be opportunities to help with regular maintenance throughout the gardening season. Individuals younger than 16 years old need to be accompanied by an adult.
