What can we learn about democracy from elections abroad?
Join us for an insightful evening with author Jane Cooper, as she explores this question and more in an engaging, interview-style discussion inspired by her book What Ukrainian Elections Taught Me About Democracy.
Drawing from her experiences as an international election observer, Jane will offer a unique perspective on how elections are monitored around the world—and what that can teach us about our own democratic process here in Canada.
Topics will include:
- The role of international election observers—and how it compares to observation in Canada
- What observers look for during each stage of an election (and what they might miss)
- How observation reports can help counter disinformation
- Why becoming an election observer or scrutineer can be a meaningful way for citizens of all ages to engage in democracy
Audience questions are encouraged—so come curious, ready to listen and/or join the conversation.
