The Township of Russell Public Library is committed to providing equal access for all members of the community to information, lifelong learning, literacy, and the love of reading.



SERVICE DISRUPTIONS - ACCESSIBILITY ADVISORIES

The Library provides notice of planned or unplanned service disruption to the public, including information about the reason for the disruption, its anticipated duration and a description of alternative facilities or service, if any, that may be available. All service disruptions will be posted on this page.

INFORMATION SERVICES

The Library provides information services & resources for persons with disabilities by telephone, fax, email and remote access to the library catalogue including electronic databases and resources.

You can also use our handy online forms to register for a library program or event, suggest a book or movie for purchase, request an interlibrary loan, ask a question to a librarian, send your comments or suggestions about our programs & services, submit a community event for the community calendar and more...

HOME OUTREACH

The Library provides outreach services including home delivery for persons with disabilities who are homebound and have no alternative means of obtaining library materials as well as a monthly mobile collection delivery service to seniors' residences & apartment buildings.

Branch is accessible ACCESSIBLE FACILITIES

Both branches of the library are wheelchair accessible. The Library is continually improving the accessibility features of internal signage and furnishings as budget allows and as required by the AODA.


SPECIAL COLLECTIONS

The Library develops and maintains accessible collections in a variety of formats including: large print books, audiobooks, DVDs and literacy materials. The Library also offers downloadable eBooks and eAudiobooks as well as access to a full range of electronic databases that you can access from the library or from your home.

Also, the library's collections and community information displays include materials with information on a range of disabilities, disability issues, and services for people with disabilities.

Have difficulty reading print?

There is now an easier and faster way to get audiobooks from CELA (Centre for Equitable Library Access) - a service provided formerly by the CNIB Library. You can download them from the CELA website using a service called "Direct to Player". Please contact library staff to find out how to register.



If you have trouble reading print because of a visual, physical or learning disability, the Library offers lots of ways to read. As a member of CELA (Centre for Equitable Library Access), we offer: 
  • Books of all kinds for all ages in audio, e-text and braille
  • Audiobooks on CD - copies available at the library for print-handicapped patrons. Search the keyword "CNIB" in the online catalogue for a complete list of available titles.
  • More than 85,000 books. magazines and newspapers
  • Descriptive videos in VHS and DVD
  • Braille music scores and audio music instruction CDs
  • CNIB Library has partnered with public libraries to make sure children have access to Summer Reading Club books in the format they need. To access alternative format books and to received a free accessible kit, kids must be registered with CNIB Library or CELA.

The Library is committed to adding adaptive technologies for persons with disabilities as available technologies and budgets allow.

The Public Library Board has adopted a Customer Services Policy for users with disabilities. The purpose of this policy is to ensure that library services provided to persons with disabilities are accessible, equitable, and delivered in a manner that respects the dignity and independence of the individual and that the Library is compliant with the requirements of the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) and its regulations.
